About BOST Law Clinic
Bost University Law Clinic is a clinical legal education program established for the purpose of developing law students’ legal skills while providing legal aid under faculty supervision. The clinic was initially established in 2012 as an integrated component of law education at Bost University. In response to the increasing demand for legal services and aid, Bost University decided to accredit the clinical legal education under a formal permit to exercise both legal education and practical legal action in Helmand province. Bost University Law Clinic is now a fully operational center for legal education and legal action – aimed at reducing the distance between legal theory and practice. The clinic also provides access to legal aid where vulnerable beneficiaries receive a variety of legal aid including legal representation, mediation, legal defense, advocacy and legal information.
The Legal Education component of the law clinic is comprised of pre-clinic courses designed to introduce students to relevant conceptual and foundational legal theories. The general theme upheld throughout the courses is promoting equal access to justice via clinical legal education, legal practice, legal aid, legal empowerment, discussion, participation and the practice of good professional ethics. The pre-clinic courses include integrated simulations of diverse legal scenarios.
The Legal Skills component is a set of integrated legal skills designed around the concept of enabling law students to practice law upon graduation. The skills package includes legal research and Analysis, Legal writing and presentation, interviewing, investigation, mediation and representation. Students are also given intensive advocacy and client relations management trainings.
The Legal Aid component is comprised of legal advice and legal information, legal representation, legal consultation and legal mediation. These skills are taught through an integrated learning scheme where students engage in the immediate practice of learned skills in a supervised and directed environment. To enhance the learning of these skills, legal experts, professional lawyers, advocates and law teachers constantly communicate with law students and provide constructive criticism and advice.
